They’re known as Spider orchids – presumably a result of their long slender petals and sepals. But, I think the name is a bit unfortunate, perhaps even off-putting. Don’t get me wrong: all life is fascinating. It’s just that spiders can evoke a sense of discomfort and, depending on their size – huntsmen, for example – an outright surge of adrenaline.
Dancers are a better name: dancing orchids.
They seem to be moving, in the light breeze of a day in springtime, in the spotlight of the sun.
‘Dancing orchids’ is a much better name for these lovely flowers. Nice observation!
