Where have all the wombats gone?

The Common (or coarse haired or bare nosed) Wombat was once a common, if irregular, sight.  It’s been a long time since anyone has actually caught sight of a wombat in the Reserve.

Long time local resident and volunteer member of the committee of management, Bruce King, explains that there used to be regular sightings. “But, once they put in Borrman’s Street, many native animals were killed by passing traffic- wombats among them”.

There is some hope, though: this recently dug wombat hole was found in the Reserve.
